When a guardianship is necessary, the court will require evidence that the person is unable to care for himself or herself before a guardian is appointed. We will present necessary testimony and evidence to the court showing that the individual cannot function without help. There are two types of guardians:
- Professional Guardians: Professional guardians are regulated by the State, monitored by the courts and are familiar with community resources. This is an option if you are unable to act as guardian.
- Family Guardians: For many families, keeping the care of your loved one within the family is a main goal. Family members may be more familiar with the family dynamic, finances and wishes of your loved one than an outsider would be.
